                                                                           April 2022

We are still buzzing from our first in-person event for 2022. Hosted in Sydney by Benefactor Member EY, the event “Reimagining Payments” started with two roundtables, run concurrently. The first was on “The Future of Merchant Acquiring”, which was backed by Benefactor member Ingenico who shared their global expertise and insights on this topic alongside FIS and CBA. The second roundtable “The Future of Account to Account Payments”, we turned to new member EonX for thought leadership. After a brief refreshment break, the roundtable participants were joined by over 60 passionate payments people for a fireside chat, where the ideas and themes of the two roundtables were discussed. It was fantastic to get in the room with so many of our members! Keep an eye out for the summary reports from the roundtables which will be available soon. In the meantime, here are just a few photos from the event – make sure you don’t miss out next time!

ISO20022 - Knowledge that is missing in the industry

Round Table

  •  Web 3.0 is a new version of the web based on blockchain. Why should it matter to payments? Because Web 3.0 sits at the core of DeFi. In fact DeFi is a new class of Web 3.0 financial services built using Smart Contracts and blockchain. Here is an example of a FinTech that is here now - TrueFi is a marketplace lender offering unsecured loans for borrowers and an opportunity for people with funds to invest in loans to earn a higher return. TrueFi is a form of decentralized finance using stablecoins (The Financial Brand). But we also have to realise there is no legal protection when things go wrong. Moreover there is a risk of smart contract logic hacks. This is difficult to police given that it may not be possible to determine who is responsible (Security Boulevard). Read more
